Nyagatare: Governor commends Kiyombe residents for promoting development

The governor of Eastern Province, Odette Uwamariya has commended residents of Kiyombe sector in Nyagatare district for playing key role in speeding up development in the sector.

The governor made these remarks over the weekend during her tour of different development projects in the sector.

Accompanied by Nyagatare local leaders and security officials, the governor toured different projects including a vocational school that was constructed in partnership with the German State of Rhenanie- Palatinat where over 80 students are enrolled as well as a community-owned model school, Kabare Community secondary school constructed in Cyonda cell under the 12-year-basic education programme, among others. The community model school was commended for rapid progress in education where its administrators said the school passed with 97% in this year’s national examinations.

Speaking to residents, the governor lauded their efforts in speeding up development and challenged them to continue the culture of hard work if they are to attain sustainable development.

“It is out of your collective efforts that all these development projects we have witness came into existence. You need to double your efforts and achieve more,” said the governor.

As part of the ongoing good governance month, the governor, together with local leaders in Nyagatare district interacted with Kiyombe residents where different questions were raised and answered.

Among the pressing issues addressed to the governor is lack of access to the national broadcaster which leads to lack of access to information.

In response, the governor assured residents that the government is working round the clock to fix state-of-the-art digital transmitters to ensure residents access the national radio country wide.

In an interview, Emmanuel Mwumvaneza, Kiyombe sector executive secretary said that governor’s visit fuels their energy of completing all the activities they had in plans like building offices for the community credit and savings cooperative commonly known as Umurenge Sacco as well as constructing cell offices around the sector.

Kiyombe sector is comprised of 6 cells and 67 villages. The sector has been listed top performer among other sectors in the province for implementing government programmes.
