Remera Hospitality Academy (RHA) on March 15 concluded a 5 week training for 198 Hotel, Motel and Restaurant employees in the Eastern Province.

Beneficiaries trained in Food & Beverage service, culinary Art, Front Office operations, Housekeeping, customer care and quality service delivery.

The training was conducted in two centers; one in Kayonza district with 76 trainees and another one in Nyagatare district with 84 trainees.

This training aims at addressing the existing skills gap evidenced in the hospitality industry by upgrading their technical skills and competencies so as to become competitive and employable at the labour market, regionally and internationally.

According to the Coordinator of Remera Hospitality Academy Sam Barigye, 16 local government workers in Kayonza and 22 from Nyagatare were also trained in quality service delivery.

While closing the training, the director general of WDA Jerome Gasana urged trainees to pass on skills to their colleagues in their respective work places.

He further said that trainees will be facilitated in study visits to high standard hotels, motels and restaurants in Kigali as part of training to expose them to best practices.

The vice Mayor for Kayonza district in charge of social affairs Anita Mutesi commended the exercise and referred to it as a signal that the government is determined to promote quality service delivery and customer care which is still a big challenge in Rwanda.

She called on WDA to extend this kind of training to different households as most of the skills taught are required for domestic purposes.

Esther Murekatete who trained in customer care said that the training changed her attitude towards how she has been receiving her clients. She plans to base on the acquired skills to look for a better job and share this experience with workmates.

The Eastern province came following similar trainings conducted in other provinces.

RHA has 23 WDA trainers and most of them have undergone training in Master of Business Administration in Hospitality Management and Diploma in Hospitality Administration at Les Roches International School of Hotel Management.
